• An Impassioned Family

In 1966 Henri and Françoise Leveque acquired a few plots of vines in the village of Podensac.

After 40 years of patiently adding more prime plots, Château de Chantegrive is today one of the largest and most prestigious estates in the Graves appellation with 80 hectares of vines. It is a member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.

A new generation has now arrived, which, with its energy and committed involvement within the winegrowing world, has injected renewed impetus into the estate.

Agnès, Patrice, Hélène and François (photographed here) form a close-knit and efficient team.

  • Getting the Best out of the Terroir

Château de Chantegrive, which is located on the left bank of the Garonne river, 30 km (18 miles) from Bordeaux, covers a superb terroir made up of pebbles mixed with fine sand.

The entire vineyard faces due south, which is a determining factor for producing top quality fruit. The Lévêque family is passionate about this exceptional terroir and has done everything to provide the estate with state-of-the-art facilities that are inspired by both traditional and the latest winemaking methods.

  • Enhanced Expertise

A genuine long-term strategy has been designed to enable this beautiful Graves terroir to express its full value:

    - plot-by-plot vineyard management

    - strict selection of the best fruit

    - careful vinification adapted to harvest conditions

    - meticulous ageing of red wines in a “cathedral” cellar containing more than 800 French oak barrels

    - a special winemaking process for the production of the reputed Graves white Chantegrive Caroline, which is made and aged in wood on fine lees in a purpose-fitted cellar

These operations are all scrupulously carried out by a motivated team with advice from world-reputed winegrower and oenologist Hubert de Bouärd.
